Moose and Caribou Hunting

Located in the heart of prime moose country in the Chilcotin region of Central British Columbia, the hunting territory of Lehman Creek Outfitters Inc. retains the exclusive guide outfitting rights to 600 square miles of alpine and sub-alpine terrain within one of Canada's southernmost wilderness areas. This hunting territory lies to the east of Tweedsmuir Park stretching from the Ilgachuz Mountains eastwards to the Clusko River. Within Management Unit 5-12, its secluded area has an abundance of natural habitat for a variety of big game animals including bear, mountain caribou and moose.

The mountainous region within this territory contains the largest portion of summer/fall feeding grounds for the Chilcotin Mountain Caribou herd and the swamp meadows of its plateau area, provide ideal habitat for moose. Access into this territory is restricted and difficult so the game is protected from over-hunting.

Lehman Creek Outfitters Inc. is a family-owned hunting business operated by Dave and Deb Altherr. Dave has ranched in the remote Chilcotin region of British Columbia since he immigrated from Switzerland in 1977 and Deb worked as a professional cook in isolated mining and hunting camps throughout northern B.C. In 1985 they bought a 1,900 acre cattle ranch in the west Chilcotin and guided hunters in the mountains, using the ranch headquarters as a base camp for hunting. The ranch and territory they purchased was one of the original homesteads in the area, pioneered by the Bryant and Lehman families who began guiding hunters in the early 1940s.

In 1999 Dave and Deb sold their ranch but kept the hunting territory they had named Lehman Creek Outfitters, and in 2000 purchased the adjacent territory from Thunder Mountain Outfitters. This amalgamation more than doubled their original capacity for moose and caribou hunts. Dave continues to actively guide on as many hunts as possible and Deb prepares the meals with a home-made style for which she is well known.
